Knee Ligament Injuries
Ligaments are connective tissue that joins bone to bone. The job of the ligaments is to provide stability to joints. They can become injured by playing sports or doing activities that involve high impact, twisting, changing direction and quick movements.
The knee consists of 4 main ligaments:
- Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL)
- Posterior Cruciate Ligament (PCL)
- Medial Collateral Ligament (MCL)
- Lateral Collateral Ligament (LCL)
Common knee ligament Injury symptoms:
- Pain
- A audible pop/snap
- Bruising
- Swelling
- Inability to weight-bear
- Knee instability - giving way when walking
- Reduced knee range of motion
- Reduced strength
