Hip Pain
The hip is one of the most mobile joints in the body. It is very stable and plays an important role in many of our daily activities, such as walking, standing and going up and down stairs. Injuries to the hip are classified as soft tissue or joint injuries.
Injuries to the joint include osteoarthritis and labral tears.
Injuries to the soft tissues around the hip joint are most common and are often as a result of:
- Muscular imbalance/weaknesses
- Weakness lower down the chain (in the knee muscles or ankle muscles) or higher up the chain (the core muscles)
- Acute overload injuries or gradual overload injuries to the tendons
Examples of Hip Injuries which can contribute to Hip Pain include:
- Greater Trochanteric Pain Syndrome
- Hip Bursitis
- Groin Strains
- Gluteal Tendinopathy
- Piriformis Syndrome
